Jackson Homes designed and built this custom spec home in Walden Preserve in Black Forest, Colorado Springs, Colorado, creating a residence that blends spacious family living with premium finishes, structural complexity, and strong visual curb appeal. Built in 2018–2019, the home spans 4,161 square feet and includes 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, and a 5-car garage.

Set on 2.55 acres in Black Forest, the project was designed to take advantage of the property’s setting while delivering the features buyers want most in a luxury Colorado home: main-level living, open-concept spaces, expansive windows, a walk-out basement, and a large covered composite deck built for year-round enjoyment.

The Challenge

Because this was a custom spec build rather than a homeowner-led custom home, Jackson Homes had to make every major design and construction decision internally. That means the challenge was not just to build a beautiful house, but to create a home with broad buyer appeal while still delivering the kind of standout craftsmanship that separates a premium custom builder from a production builder.

This project also included several structural and design elements that required thoughtful planning, including:

  • a large elevated covered composite deck
  • a walk-out basement
  • 9-foot basement ceilings
  • a layout designed to maximize views, natural light, and usable outdoor living space

Scope of Work

Jackson Homes handled the design and build of this custom spec home from the ground up, incorporating structural upgrades, premium exterior materials, and well-appointed interior finish work throughout the property.

Structural and Construction Highlights

The home was built with 2×6 exterior walls, a Jackson Homes standard that supports durability, insulation performance, and overall build quality. 

The basement was constructed with 9-foot ceilings, creating a more open and usable lower-level living environment than what is often found in standard basement builds.

The roof was finished with Boral Saxony Slate concrete tile, adding both durability and an upscale architectural look that complements the home’s exterior stone and stucco-style finish palette.

One of the most distinctive exterior features is the covered composite deck, designed for year-round use. The deck includes a custom-stained tongue-and-groove wood ceiling and stairs leading down to the lower patio, creating a layered outdoor living experience that enhances both function and visual impact.

Interior Finish Work

Inside, the home was finished with elevated features throughout. The main level includes vaulted ceilings, 8-foot solid-core doors, and upgraded base and casing details that give the home a more refined custom feel. In the basement, 6-foot solid-core doors continue that sense of quality and consistency.

The layout was designed around open living, natural light, and smooth transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces.
